Short term study visa

You can apply for a Short-term Study visa if you plan to do a short course of study in the UK such as an English language course, training course or conduct research as part of a degree course if you are studying abroad.

Please be aware that you will be unable to get a study visa to study at a state school or extend a study visa once it is expired. You also cannot bring dependent family members as they must apply for a visa themselves. It should also be noted that you cannot receive public funds during your stay.

Eligibility

In order to acquire eligibility for a study visa, you must meet certain requirements prior to gaining acceptance.

  • You must have the funds to support yourself during your stay. This means that you must have the funds at the ready to support yourself during your entire stay or have family that can support you financially during your stay. You will have no access to public funds or employment.
  • You must also have the funds that will either return you to your original country or to your onward destination.
  • You must prove that you have been accepted to study in the UK. The place of study must have a Tier 4 sponsor license.
  • You have the option to apply for a 6-month study visa or an 11-month study visa. You can also apply for your study visa up to 3 months prior to your travel date to the UK. You should inquire how long it takes to process your application because processing times do vary from country to country. In most cases, you must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a study visa to the UK.

Complete the online application form, pay the relevant fee and book an appointment at the visa center.

Print off the form and collect your supporting documentation and take to the visa center. You are required to have your photographs and fingerprints taken at the visa center.

You will be provided with a visa valid for the duration of the course after which you will need to leave the UK.
